Custom Fried Chicken Boxes: MOQ, Sizes & Materials Guide

Fried chicken boxes are the most ordered takeaway packaging item after burger boxes. If you run a fried chicken shop, a ghost kitchen, or a QSR supply business, the box you choose affects portion control, grease management, and how customers perceive your brand. This guide covers the sizes, materials, printing options, and ordering details you need to know before you buy.
1. Standard Fried Chicken Box Sizes
Fried chicken boxes come in three practical size groups. Small boxes, roughly 12 x 9 x 4 cm, hold a two-piece snack portion or chicken wings. Medium boxes, roughly 15 x 11 x 5 cm, fit a standard three-piece meal with fries on the side. Large boxes, roughly 18 x 13 x 6 cm, hold family portions or combo meals. The right size depends on your menu, not on what looks good on the shelf. Measure your actual food portions before ordering, and leave 10 to 15 percent extra space so lids close without crushing the food.
2. Material Options: Kraft, Coated Board, and Greaseproof Liners
Most fried chicken boxes are made from paperboard because it is rigid, printable, and recyclable. The two common choices are kraft board and coated (white) board. Kraft board has a natural brown look, fits the eco-friendly story, and hides grease stains reasonably well. Coated white board looks cleaner for printing and gives a more premium feel, but it costs slightly more. If your chicken is heavily fried, ask about a greaseproof liner or a box with a grease-resistant coating so oil does not soak through within the first 15 minutes. Many QSR brands combine a kraft box with a greaseproof paper sheet inside, which also helps keep the box dry.
3. Printing and Customization
Custom printing turns a plain box into a branded experience. At a minimum, print your logo and brand colors on the lid. With offset printing you can also add full-color product photography, patterns, and bilingual labels. Gloss or matte lamination protects the print and improves the feel; spot UV and foil stamping are available for premium lines. If you are launching a new brand, start with one-color or two-color printing to control cost, then upgrade once the volume grows.
4. MOQ, Sampling, and Lead Time
MOQ depends on the size, material, and printing complexity. Standard printed fried chicken boxes usually have a lower MOQ than fully custom structures, and plain unprinted boxes are the most flexible. Before committing to bulk, order samples to check size fit, grease resistance, and print quality. Most manufacturers offer samples in days and production typically takes one to three weeks depending on quantity and finishing. Always confirm lead time in writing before placing the order.
5. Why Buy from a Manufacturer Who Specializes in This Product
Fried chicken boxes look simple, but consistent quality depends on dedicated tooling and machines. Our factory in Guangzhou runs six automated forming machines built specifically for fried chicken boxes, plus offset printing, lamination, die-cutting, and automatic box gluing in-house. That means your sizes are repeatable order after order, and printing and finishing are controlled under one roof. Send us your menu or your existing box, and we will recommend the right size and material.
